Throwback: A look in the rearview mirror
Do you remember where you were 10 years ago? A look back at publications such as this May/June 2008 issue recalls A.C.E. – or the All Candy Expo at Chicago’s McCormick Place. Time marches sweetly, and as the show grew and morphed into more space and a new name, it celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017.
Congrats to the National Confectioners Association for the 21st Sweets & Snacks Expo May 22-24, 2018. See you there!

A reader sent the accompanying photo of a Peter’s Chocolate bar wrapper to be dated and identified, so we went to our expert on the subject.
Malcolm Blue, retired, Peter’s Chocolate / Div. Nestlé, writes: “That was the FIRST retail chocolate product sold in the USA, but made in Switzerland by Nestlé. Its popularity grew so much that Nestlé opened a chocolate manufacturing facility in Fulton, NY. They then took over the manufacture of the bar.
As the Peter's and Nestlé names became more associated with chocolate, Nestlé USA used the formula & process of making semi-sweet chocolate created by Daniel Peter, using the condensed milk created by Henri Nestlé in Switzerland as the world's 1st Milk Chocolate, as the basis of its retail products line.
Peter's became the brand name of the Industrial Chocolate Division of Nestlé USA. That division was sold to another manufacturer years ago and recently Nestlé's retail products line was sold to a European manufacturer. A radio and TV jingle states: ‘N-E-S-T-L-E-S. Nestlé makes the very best, Chawclit.’ But no longer in the USA.”
